Cosmelan™ Depigmentation Treatment
This in-office depigmentation program is effective for all types of Melasma and compatible with all skin types. It can be used all year round and is easily adapted to the needs of the individual. It rejuvenates and brings back the skin's luminosity. There are two stages to the protocol used at MD Aesthetics. The initial treatment starts in the Physician's office and the home treatment consists of daily application of product.
Physicans Office treatment (Cosmelan1™)
The physician or assistant will thoroughly cleanse the skin surface removing oils and dead cells. A facial mask is then applied. The patient will go home with the mask on and will leave it on for a specified amount of time depending on the Physician's instructions and according to your condition and skin phototype.
Home treatment
The treatment is then followed by the Cosmelan 2 ™ cream. This guarantees the permanence of the initial depigmentation treatment, favouring the disappearance of blemishes of melanic origin. Your physician will advise you on the proper home use of the Cosmelan 2™ cream.
Intended Results
In most cases, the disappearance of the blemishes improves tremendously. ONE WEEK after starting the Cosmelan™ Depigmentation treatment, a noticeable, significant improvement of the skin is observed! The reduction of the treated blemish is detected and the appearance of new luminous and rejuvenated skin is present.
At the end of the Cosmelan™ Depigmentation treatment, the blemishes start to disappear altogether, so that, although the patient may be able to locate the place where the spot was, the truth is that the pigmentation will have disappeared and nobody will be able to see it just by looking at it.
Recuperation and Healing
- First and Second day
During the first two days of the treatment, the skin may turn red. If the skin is very sensitive, the patient may experience an itching feeling. Slight burning and tightening of the skin is also absolutely normal, especially during the first 24 to 48 hours after starting the treatment. To relieve these problems, it is advisable to apply the Hydra-vital factor K Cream whenever necessary.
- Reddening of the Skin
The reddening that occurs on the face after applying the Cosmelan 1™ treatment is similar to the effects of day-long exposure to the sun in the snow without protection. (Intense reddening in photo type I and II and practically non-existent in photo type IV and V)
- Flaking
Flaking may occur on all skin types (and more intensely in photo types I and II) between the second and third day. In this case it is advisable to apply the Hydra-vital factor K cream, repeating this every two hours on the day when the flaking is most intense.
- Third and Fourth day
After the third or fourth day, the skin appears healthy and luminous and the marks begin to fade. There will be some flaking and redness for the first week while the initial depigmentation action is occurring.
Important Information
It is important that you inform the physician if you have undergone any previous treatments, especially with glycolic acid, retinoids or peels as you will have to discontinue these for at least a week prior to depigmentation treatment.
The Cosmelan™ Depigmentation treatment initiated at the medical office
must be continued at home, on a
daily basis, according to the guidelines your doctor will give to you. The treatment must not be interrupted under any circumstances, during the whole time prescribed.
It is completely forbidden to combine the Cosmelan™ Depigmentation treatment with other depigmentation treatments, as the appearance of undesired effects cannot be guaranteed.
Follow up visits are recommended 15 days after the beginning of treatment, at 30 days, at three months and physician determined thereafter.
