Spider veins, or telangietasias, are those small red, blue and purple blood vessels that appear most frequently on the face and thighs. The leading cause of spider veins is heredity, pregnancy, hormone changes, obesity, sun exposure and aging. Spider veins can be treated with laser whereas larger veins require traditional methods such as sclerotherapy or surgery. Laser is particularly suited to treatment of facial spider veins and is also useful for small veins of the leg.
