PhotoFacial Rejuvenation

Terms such as FotoFacial, FotoFacial RF, PhotoFacial PR and others have been used to describe this procedure. These types of PhotoFacial treatments have been designed by Aesthetic Physicians who are leaders in their field and have been tried and tested in medical offices throughout the world. Customized treatment protocols combined with prescription creams and cosmeseuticals ensure optimal results.

Who are Candidates?

Individuals who desire improvement in fine lines, wrinkles, facial spider veins, blemishes, brown spots, Rosacea, sun-damaged skin, aging skin, oily skin with enlarged pores and acne are all candidates for PhotoFacial Rejuvenation.

How does the PhotoFacial work?

The PhotoFacial PR delivers intense bursts of light energy, through carefully selected filters, to the treatment area. This light energy selectively targets abnormal changes that develop with age and successfully improves sun-damage, age spots, rosacea, broken veins, fine lines and enlarged pores. The stimulation of new collagen formation gives the skin an improved texture and allows it to better reflect light.

How is the treatment performed?

A cold gel is applied to the area being treated while the hand piece is gently applied to your skin. The entire area is scanned with intense pulsed light, each pulse producing a slight sting. A topical anaesthetic cream may be used to reduce discomfort. A treatment of the full face may take an hour while larger areas of the chest and neck may take a little longer.

Recuperation and Healing

Most patients have minimal side effects. Unlike laser resurfacing, PhotoFacials act on the deeper layer of skin under the epidermis. Redness is common and usually lasts for a few hours. Slight darkening and flaking of pigmented spots occurs during the week following treatment.

Patients remark that their skin feels soft and even. Studies show fine wrinkles and blemishes improve by 50-75%. By dividing the treatment into several sessions, gradual improvement is achieved with low risk and no down time. Typically, 5-6 treatments are performed approximately 3 to 4 weeks apart. A full treatment will therefore often take 4 - 6 months to complete.

Patients can reapply make-up and return to work, activities, etc. immediately after treatment. It is important to avoid sun exposure after PhotoFacial therapy. You must wear a hat and sunscreen after this treatment.

Who should not have a PhotoFacial?

Certain medical conditions, prescription, and non-prescription medications may preclude you from being able to have a PhotoFacial. Some ethnically dark skin groups should not have this treatment. It is extremely important for our physician to take your medical and prescription history to determine your eligibility for this procedure.

Other Options

Laser resurfacing, Chemical Peels, Botox®, Fillers or other cosmetic facial procedures are all procedures that may be used alone or in addition to the PhotoFacial PR.
