Microneedling & Scarring
Microneedling is an effective non-ablative procedure which helps reduce wrinkles, acne scarring, and stretch marks and improve skin elasticity. This technique aids in skin rejuvenation without damaging the top layer of your skin, your sole protection from the environment. The treatment includes 6 in-clinic sessions, 2 weeks apart, and a home care regiment.
How does microneedling work?
The microneedling equipment produces hundreds of tiny needle punctures in the skin. This micro trauma triggers the natural healing response of the body which in turn results in new collagen formation (neocollagenesis). New collagen is beneficial because it imparts a more youthful look to the skin with improved elasticity and texture. Rejuvenation occurs immediately and continues up to 5 months to appreciate its full effect.
Why is home care important?
To ensure optimal skin healing response, the application of topical Vitamins A and C is essential for a period of at least two weeks prior to your procedure. A home care roller is provided along with topical Vitamin A and C . Tiny micro needles on the roller puncture the outer layer of the epidermis, the main barrier to penetration of active ingredients. As a result, ingredients in the skin care products easily penetrate optimizing skin rejuvenation.
Why must I use Vitamin A and C ?
Healthy skin requires vitamins A and C and other antioxidants. Powerful anti-oxidants not only help repair damaged skin but also protect it from future damage. Because we don’t always get adequate levels of vitamins in our diet, it is important to include them as part of our skin- care regime. Adequate nourishment of the skin with Vitamins A and C will ensure that the metabolic processes for collagen production are maximized with your Microneedling treatments. These important molecules will help in the production of collagen for a more youthful look.
Who should consider Microneedling?
Patients, looking to reduce scarring and stretchmarks, should consider Microneedling. This procedure is suitable for the face, arms, abs, and thighs. It is also a great treatment following liposuction. Also, clients looking to plump of their skin, should consider a Microneedling Facial. Instead of using Vitamin A&C, we use hyaluronic gel.
Who cannot participate in Microneedling?
This procedure is not indicated if you have skin cancer, have an active skin infection, acne or herpes, are on Anticoagulation therapy such as warfarin, heparin, and other oral anticoagulants, have an allergy to local anesthetic agents, are immune compromised or have other conditions that affect healing, have an extremely rare but severe form of keloid scarring. These issues are to be discussed and determined by the physician.
How many treatments do I need?
Treatment course depends on many factors including patient goals, skin condition, and the size and location of the treatment area. The following guidelines are approximations. An individual treatment plan will be determined during consultation.
Scarring, Stretch Marks: 6 treatments 2 weeks apart
High End Facial: 1 treatment to 3 treatments for Optimal Results
Is there any downtime?
Patients typically experience mild sensitivity, inflammation and redness after treatment; signs that the fine micro points have penetrated the epidermis. The perforated stratum cornium will close within minutes and the sensitivity and redness should abate within 2 to 5 hours. Although rare, some bruising may occur.
How do I start Microneedling?
As with any treatment at MD Aesthetics, it is always best to start with a general consultation to discuss your concerns and goals. At this time we will discuss options and provide a comprehensive plan of action that best meets your needs.
What is Microneedling Facial?
This is a high end facial and typically sold as a single treatment but recommended 3 treatments 2 weeks apart for optimal results. All of the above information applies except when we do this treatment, we use Hyaluronic instead of Vitamin A & C. This highly effective non-ablative procedure helps reduce lines and wrinkles and improve skin texture and tone. The Microneedling Facial also includes a mask and the infusion of hyaluronic gel loaded with bio peptides which immediately helps plump up fine lines and wrinkles. Unlike ablative laser resurfacing, medical needling does not damage the epidermis nor does it result in significant downtime.
You should consider a Microneedling Facial if you wish to restore skin elasticity and tightness; improve fine lines, wrinkles and skin texture;
