CLEAR + BRILLIANT

Gentle Fractional Laser for Early Skin Aging

Clear + Brilliant®: the sweet spot between skincare and heavy resurfacing—gentle, low-downtime treatment that improves early sun damage, tone, and texture.

Clear + Brilliant® is a non-ablative fractional laser system with two handpieces:

  • 1440 nm (Original) – aimed at early signs of aging, texture, fine lines, pores, and overall skin quality.

  • 1927 nm (Perméa) – optimized for pigmentation, sun damage, and enhancing skin permeability for topical products.

During treatment, the laser creates thousands of microscopic columns of controlled thermal injury (fractional “microchannels”) in the upper layers of the skin. Surrounding tissue is left intact, which helps the skin heal quickly. As these micro-injuries repair, they trigger cell turnover and collagen remodeling, leading to smoother texture, more even tone, and a fresher overall appearance.

Clear + Brilliant® is indicated for general skin resurfacing and soft-tissue coagulation, and is specifically positioned for photoaged skin—patients who are starting to see dullness, enlarged pores, fine lines, and pigment irregularities but may not yet need an aggressive resurfacing laser.

Because it’s non-ablative and uses conservative energy settings, most patients experience short-lived redness and mild swelling rather than true downtime, and it can be used safely on a wide range of skin tones when parameters are adjusted appropriately.

What concerns does Clear + Brilliant treat?

Clear + Brilliant is designed for early to moderate photoaging and overall skin quality, including:

  • Dull, uneven skin tone
  • Rough or uneven texture
  • Fine lines and early wrinkles
  • Enlarged pores
  • Mild hyperpigmentation and sun damage (especially with the 1927 nm handpiece)

It is not a replacement for deep resurfacing or surgery, but an excellent option for patients who want a noticeable but gentle refresh.

Which areas can be treated?

Most commonly:

  • Face – the primary indication in studies for photoaged skin
  • Neck and décolletage – to improve texture and pigmentation
  • Selected off-face areas (e.g., hands) in appropriate candidates

Exact treatment areas and settings are determined after a clinical assessment.

Am I a good candidate for Clear + Brilliant?

You may be a good candidate if you:

  • Have mild to moderate sun damage, uneven tone, or texture changes
  • Want to maintain good skin quality or “step up” from skincare without a long recovery
  • Are in generally good health, not pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Are able to avoid tanning and follow basic post-laser care

Patients with very deep wrinkles, significant laxity, or medical contraindications to laser may be better suited to other treatments or combination approaches.

How should I prepare for a Clear + Brilliant treatment?

Typical pre-treatment guidance includes:

  • Avoid sun exposure, tanning, and self-tanners for 2–4 weeks beforehand.
  • Use daily broad-spectrum SPF and a simple, non-irritating skincare routine leading up to treatment.
  • Stop topical retinoids or strong acids on the treatment area for several days pre-treatment (timing adjusted per your provider).
  • Avoid photosensitizing medications and unnecessary blood-thinning supplements when medically safe and in consultation with your prescribing physician.

A full medical history and skin assessment will determine any additional precautions.

What happens during the procedure?
  1. Cleansing & photography – The skin is cleansed; photos may be taken for tracking results.
  2. Topical anesthesia – A numbing cream is usually applied and left on for ~20–30 minutes for comfort.
  3. Treatment passes – The Clear + Brilliant handpiece is rolled or glided across the skin in a systematic pattern; the system tracks motion to ensure consistent coverage.
  4. Cooling & skincare – The skin is cooled; soothing topicals and/or a barrier product may be applied.

Total in-clinic time is usually 45–60 minutes, though the laser “on-skin” time is shorter.

What should I expect after treatment?

Clear + Brilliant is considered a low-downtime or “social downtime” procedure:

  • Day 0–1: Redness and a warm, sunburn-like sensation; mild swelling possible.
  • Days 2–5: Skin may feel slightly rough or “sandy” to the touch as microscopic columns heal.
  • After ~5–7 days: Texture smooths out and a fresher, more even look emerges.

Most patients can return to normal activities the same or next day, avoiding intense heat, heavy sweating, and harsh products while the skin recovers.

Most patients describe the feeling as warmth or prickling during each pass. With topical numbing and integrated cooling, the treatment is generally well tolerated. Afterward, the skin often feels like a mild to moderate sunburn for a few hours.

Sensitivity level and comfort measures can be discussed and adjusted at consultation.

Is Clear + Brilliant safe?

Clear + Brilliant is a non-ablative, fractional 1440/1927 nm laser that has been cleared for soft tissue coagulation and general skin resurfacing, with published safety and effectiveness data for photoaged skin.

As with any laser device, potential risks include:

  • Temporary redness, swelling, and dryness
  • Bronzing or rough “sandpaper” feel during healing
  • Rare pigment changes or, very rarely, scarring or infection

Appropriate patient selection, parameter choice, and aftercare significantly reduce these risks. At MD Aesthetics, treatments are performed using medical-grade protocols consistent with device guidelines and current best practice.

When will I see results, and how many treatments will I need?

You may see an initial radiance and texture boost within 1–2 weeks, with ongoing improvements as collagen remodeling continues over the following months.

Clinical protocols and studies commonly use a series of treatments, such as:

  • About 4–6 sessions, spaced 2–4 weeks apart, for best cumulative results
  • Followed by maintenance sessions several times per year, depending on skin type, age, and sun exposure

Your plan will be customized to your degree of photoaging and your tolerance for downtime and frequency.
