DERMAL FILLERS

Subtle and natural proportions.

Dr. Copeland uses advanced, conservative filler techniques to restore volume, refine contours, and soften lines—while keeping your expression natural.

More About Dermal Fillers

Over time, the face naturally loses bone, fat, elastin, and collagen. This gradual change can lead to less structure, flatter contours, and features that look more tired or deflated. Dermal fillers help restore balance by rebuilding volume, redefining key areas, and refreshing features that have softened with age or expression.

At MD Aesthetics, Dr. Copeland carefully selects from a range of medical-grade fillers, each designed for specific areas and goals:

Hyaluronic Acid (HA) Fillers

Hyaluronic acid is a molecule found naturally in the skin that helps maintain hydration and plumpness. As we age, HA levels decline. HA fillers safely restore volume, smooth lines, and sculpt features such as the cheeks, jawline, lips, and temples. Results typically last 6–12 months and, if needed, HA fillers can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase.

Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA)

CaHA is a mineral-like substance naturally present in bone. Fillers such as Radiesse® use CaHA to provide deeper support and structure. They are ideal for areas needing more lift and definition, and results often last around a year or longer, while also stimulating your own collagen.

Poly-L-Lactic Acid (PLLA)

PLLA is a collagen-stimulating injectable that works more gradually. Instead of creating instant volume, it encourages your skin to rebuild its own structural support over time, making it well-suited for deeper volume restoration and overall facial rejuvenation.

Choosing the right filler is both a science and an art. Each product has its own texture, density, and flexibility, which influences where it should be placed and how long it will last. Dr. Copeland’s detailed understanding of facial anatomy and proportion allows her to select and combine fillers in a way that complements your unique features and maintains natural movement.

When done correctly, filler results should look subtle and elegant—more “well-rested and refreshed” than “filled.” Too much product can distort natural features; Dr. Copeland’s philosophy is simple: the best work is the kind that doesn’t announce itself.

What areas can be treated with dermal fillers?

Fillers can be used in many areas of the face—and sometimes the hands—depending on anatomy and goals. Common areas include cheeks and midface, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, lips, chin, jawline, temples, tear troughs (in select patients), and the backs of the hands.

How do you decide which filler is right for me?

Product selection is based on facial structure, tissue thickness, movement, and treatment goals. Dr. Copeland chooses the filler—and placement technique—that best supports natural balance and longevity, rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach.

What happens during a filler appointment?

Your visit includes a thorough consultation, facial assessment, and discussion of goals. After cleansing and optional numbing, filler is placed using a fine needle or cannula. Gentle shaping may follow. Most appointments take 30–60 minutes, depending on areas treated.

Am I a good candidate for dermal fillers?

You may be a good candidate if you’re looking to restore volume, soften lines, or refine contours and are generally healthy, not pregnant or breastfeeding, and free of active skin infection in the treatment area. A medical review ensures fillers are appropriate and safe for you.

What are the benefits of dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers offer non-surgical rejuvenation with minimal downtime. Treatments are customizable, reversible (for HA fillers), and can address volume loss, folds, contouring, and subtle enhancement while preserving expression.

Are dermal fillers safe?

When administered by an experienced physician using Health Canada–approved products, fillers have a strong safety profile. Temporary swelling or bruising is common. Rare but serious risks (such as vascular occlusion) are discussed thoroughly, and emergency protocols are always in place.

What should I expect after treatment?

Mild swelling, redness, or tenderness is normal and usually resolves within a few days. Bruising may last up to 1–2 weeks. Most patients return to daily activities the same day, following simple aftercare instructions.

When will I see results and how long will they last?

Results with HA fillers are visible immediately, with final results settling within 1–2 weeks. Longevity varies by area and product, ranging from 6–18+ months. Maintenance treatments help preserve natural-looking results over time.
