MICRONEEDLING

Discover advanced micro-needling with DP4.

Microneedling with the DP4 pen is rejuvenation treatment that uses fine, sterile needles to safely and precisely trigger the skin’s natural healing process. It improves texture, minimizes pores and scars, and restores youthful firmness.

Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, works by creating controlled micro-injuries in the skin. These tiny punctures stimulate the body’s wound-healing response, promoting the production of new collagen, elastin, and capillaries. The result is smoother, firmer, and more radiant skin.

At MD Aesthetics, we use the DP4 pen by Dermapen™, a fourth-generation medical-grade microneedling device. The DP4 pen delivers superior results through advanced technology that ensures precise needle depth, speed, and consistency, minimizing discomfort and reducing the risk of surface trauma compared to traditional rollers or older pens.

Each disposable needle cartridge contains 16 ultrafine needles that create up to 1,920 microchannels per second, allowing for faster treatment and more effective stimulation of collagen renewal. The system also enables customizable depth control — shallow for delicate areas like the eyes and deeper for regions requiring more correction such as scars or fine lines.

For enhanced results, medical-grade serums, growth factors, or platelet-rich plasma (PRP) can be applied during treatment. These solutions penetrate the microchannels, amplifying regeneration and hydration for optimal outcomes.

Microneedling with the DP4 pen is suitable for all skin types and tones. Treatments are typically performed in a series of 3–6 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart, depending on your skin condition and goals. With each session, the skin becomes progressively smoother, firmer, and more luminous.

For select goals, we may pair microneedling with hyaluronic acid for hydration or stage it in a larger plan alongside BBL®, MOXI®, HALO®, or injectables—timed to keep downtime minimal.

What areas can be treated?

Face (including perioral and periorbital lines), neck, chest (décolletage), hands, and focal scars/stretch marks on the body. We adjust depth and passes by area for safety and consistency.

How should I prepare?

Arrive with clean skin (no makeup/self-tanner). Avoid retinoids, acids, benzoyl peroxide, and waxing for 3–5 days pre-treatment; skip sunburns/tanning. If you’re prone to cold sores, tell us—an antiviral may be prescribed. Minimize alcohol/optional blood thinners for 24–48 hours if safe for you.

Is it painful? What happens during treatment (and how long)?

We apply topical anesthetic and use cooling as needed. You’ll feel a light buzzing/pressure. A full face typically takes 20–30 minutes (longer if adding neck/chest). Expect transient pinkness and a tight, sandpapery feel afterward.

Am I a good candidate?

Great for fine lines, texture, enlarged pores, acne/traumatic scars, and mild crepe. Suitable for all Fitzpatrick skin types. We defer if there’s active infection/acne cysts, open wounds, recent isotretinoin, uncontrolled eczema/psoriasis in the area, pregnancy, or a history of abnormal scarring that needs a different plan.

What are the benefits?

Smoother texture, softened fine lines, improved acne scars/rolling scars, more even tone, and a healthier skin “glow.” Because results come from your own collagen, improvements look natural and continue to refine for weeks.

Is it safe? What are the risks?

When performed with sterile technique, risks are low: temporary redness, mild swelling, pinpoint bleeding, or bruising. Less common: post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (we mitigate with conservative settings and strict SPF), infection, cold sore flare, or short-lived track-marks in very delicate skin. We use only appropriate, sterile topicals during the open-channel window.

When will I see results, and how long do they last?

Most notice a fresh glow within days; texture and scar changes emerge over 4–6 weeks as collagen remodels, continuing up to 3–6 months. Results are long-lived; many clients choose maintenance every 6–12 months.

How many treatments will I need, and what’s the downtime/aftercare?

A typical series is 3–4 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart (more for deeper scars/striae). Downtime is usually 12–48 hours of pinkness/tightness. Aftercare: gentle cleanse, hyaluronic acid and bland moisturizer, no makeup for 24 hours, SPF 50 daily, and avoid heat/sweat, saunas, retinoids/acids for 2–5 days. We’ll map your series and maintenance to your goals and calendar.
